CCSD Food Services

  POS System

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware, Food Services is using a computerized Point of Sale (POS) System in all building cafeterias. I hope you find the following information useful in understanding how it works:

Types of Accounts - There are 2 places to deposit money within your child's account:

Type A Meal Account - Money to be used ONLY for breakfast and/or lunch
General Account - Money to be used for breakfast, lunch and/or a la carte purchases

Comments on Accounts - The POS System has the capability of putting a comment on your child's account. This would be used if your child has a food allergy, diet restriction or you would like to place a limit on the amount of a la carte purchases your child is permitted to have each day.

When making a deposit into your child's account, please make sure to have cash or a check (in any amount) in an envelope marked "cafeteria". Include on the outside of the envelope yoru child's name and PIN #. Always make sure to let us know where you want the money deposited by including a note in the envelope. The following chart should help you to designate where to deposit money:

I WANT MY CHILD TO:
NOTATION IN ENVELOPE
Purchase breakfast & lunch only (no a la carte purchases) Meal Account Only
Purchase lunch only Meal Account w/Comment: No Breakfast
Purchase breakfast, lunch and a la carte purchases with no restrictions General Account
Purchase a la carte items only General account w/comment: No Meals
Purchase lunch with one (1) a la carte purchase Split money between Meal & General Accounts

Tracking a la carte purchases:
The POS System can place restrictions on your child's account, particularly for a la carte purchases. We can insert a daily dollar spending limit OR we can place a comment on your child's account limiting the number of a la carte purchases on a daily basis. If you wish further a la carte restrictions, please contact the cook manager in your building.

Other important information to remember:

  • Students can NOT use the account of another student. (ie, siblings, friends, etc)
  • Cash is still accepted on the lunch lines! You do not have to deposit money into your child's account for them to make purchases in the school cafeteria. However, having money will help speed the lunch lines allowing more time for your child to eat.
  • Low balance reminder slips will come home to you once your child's account goes under $5.00. Your child will be given the slip by the cashier.
  • Separate checks are required for siblings in different buildings.

If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me at (845) 878-2094 x254. Thank you.
